Mobile Deltas Featured Spectacular Movie Night for “The Wiz Live!”

Numerous guests eased on down the road and joined the Mobile Alumnae Chapter for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., National Arts and Letters Commission’s “Delta See TeleVISION Experience,” featuring “The Wiz Live!” which was on NBC Thursday, Dec. 3.

“It’s important that we introduce art to our community whenever possible,” said Dr. Hannah Hart, chapter president . “We are grateful to the community for its support.”

The guests and Deltas enjoyed the movie, freshly popped popcorn, coney dogs, beverages and more during the free community event at the Mobile Alumnae Chapter’s CLDC. Everyone also enjoyed the promotional items (Wiz poster, Tee shirt and sunglasses) provided by our National Arts and Letters Commission and will treasure those items for years to come.

Movie Director Kenny Leon, a graduate of Clark Atlanta University and a Tony Award winner, revamped the adaption of the 1975 Broadway musical reinterpretation of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

The movie that featured a star-studded cast to included Mary J. Blige as the Wicked Witch, David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion, Common as the bouncer to the Emerald City and Queen Latifah as The Wiz.

The original production was performed more than 40 years ago with al all African-American cast that included Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.
